On July 19, 2023, a momentous milestone was achieved as the first coke oven battery of the Risun Weishan cokemaking project successfully pushed its first batch of coke. This breakthrough marks a significant accomplishment for Sinosteel MECC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinosteel E&T and also the EP general contractor of the project. It is noteworthy that this project stands not only as Indonesia's largest cokemaking endeavor but also represents the most substantial contracted and constructed effort undertaken by a Chinese enterprise abroad.
Situated in the Qingshan Industrial Park in Sulawesi, the project mainly comprises six sets of coke oven batteries, each consisting of 66 ovens with a chamber height of 7.1 meters, designed to achieve an annual coke production of 4.8 million tons. One of its outstanding features is the implementation of Sinosteel MECC's self-developed technology, which results in an 8% reduction in energy consumption per ton of coke compared to the industry average. The proprietary top-charging coke oven, boasting a single-heating, double-channel design with segmented heating and energy-saving features, stands out for its compact structure, efficient layout, long campaign life, and commitment to energy efficiency and environmental preservation.
Notably, Indonesia holds the historical significance of being the birthplace of the Maritime Silk Road. The successful launch of the first coke oven battery is a tribute from Sinosteel MECC to commemorate the 10th anniversary of “the Belt and Road” Initiative. Such an achievement bears great importance and serves as a testament to the enduring partnership between nations along “the Belt and Road” route.
