The differences between them can be roughly summarized in five points, as follows:
1. The shape is different. The outer surface of round steel is smooth; the outer surface of rebar has spiral ribs.
2. Different production standards. In the current standard, round steel refers to HPB235 steel bars, and its production standard is "Hot Rolled Smooth Steel Bars for Reinforced Concrete" (GB13013); screw steel generally refers to HRB335 and HRB400 steel bars, and its production standard is "For Reinforced Concrete". Hot-rolled ribbed steel bar" (GB1499).
3. The intensity is different. The design strength of round steel (HPB235) is 210MPa; the strength of rebar is higher than that of round steel, for example, the design strength of HRB400 is 360MPa.
4. Different types of steel (different chemical composition). Round steel (HPB235) belongs to carbon steel, and the steel type is Q235; rebar is low-alloy steel, HRB400 grade steel bar is 20MnSiV or 20MnSiNb or 20MnTi, etc.;
5. The physical and mechanical properties are different. Due to the difference in chemical composition and strength of steel bars, there are differences in physical and mechanical properties. The cold bending performance of round steel is better, and it can be used as a 180-degree hook, and the rebar can only be used as a 90-degree straight hook; Alloy welding rod; rebar is better than round steel in terms of toughness and fatigue resistance.(All of the above are subject to Chinese national standards)
