Wuyang Steel Co., Ltd. is the production and scientific research base of wide and thick steel plates in my country. It has two technologically advanced double-frame wide and thick steel plate production lines of 4100mm+4100mm and 4200mm+4300mm, and is equipped with steel ingot die-casting lines and steel plate heat treatment facilities with obvious advantages in the domestic wide and thick plate industry. It has strong R & D and manufacturing strength. It has the comprehensive strength of annual production of 5 million tons of steel, 3.6 million tons of wide and thick steel plates, and sales revenue of 20 billion yuan.

Wusteel was originally a national defense military project. In February 1971, the State Council presided over a special meeting on the construction of Wusteel, and decided on the main content of the Wusteel project. In September 1978, my country's self-designed, self-manufactured and self-installed China "King of Rolling Mills" 4.2-meter-wide thick plate rolling mill succeeded in a hot test rolling, which ended the history of China's inability to produce extra-wide and extra-thick steel plates.

For fifty years as one day, Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has been focusing on the R&D and manufacturing of wide and thick plates. Among the 16 series and more than 360 grades of wide and thick plate products produced, more than 260 have replaced imports or are produced with foreign standards, and more than 80 varieties have been exported to developed countries and regions such as the United States, Germany, and Japan. It has established a strong national brand image and has become an important base for the localization of wide and thick steel plates in my country instead of imports.

Wusteel has successively led the formulation of ten national standards, including national standards for chromium-molybdenum alloy steel plates for hydrogen-facing equipment, national standards for steel plates with thickness direction performance, national standards for steel plates for building structures, and national standards for carbon steel and low-alloy steel plates for nuclear power plants. He has successively won the first prize and the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and nearly 100 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards.

Wusteel products are widely used in more than 300 national major projects, such as the National Manned Space Project, National Large Aircraft Project, National Defense Military Project, National Strategic Energy Project, Three Gorges Project, Beijing 2008 Olympic Project, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Beijing Capital Airport, etc. Major technical equipment projects have played a key role.

In September 2005, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association named the 4.2-meter-wide thick plate rolling mill of HBIS Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. as "Meritorious Rolling Mill of China's Iron and Steel Industry" in recognition of its outstanding contribution. In September 2008, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council awarded HBIS Wusteel the only Beijing Olympic Special Honor Award in China's iron and steel industry in recognition of its significant contribution.
