At 1 a.m. local time on May 31, at Nagasaki Port in Japan, Baochuan Company, a subsidiary of Baowu Resources Logistics Division, successfully took over the first capesize bulk carrier "Dongshan" and officially put it into operation after completing a series of tasks including crew replacement, material supply, and painting.
The "Dongshan" ship has a deadweight of 180,000 tons, a length of 291 meters, a width of 45 meters, and a maximum draft of 18.24 meters. It is named after the "Zhanjiang Dongshan Base", an important user base within the group. The chimney is blue, and the Baowu logo in it is supplemented by the red double stripes representing Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), implying that Baochuan Company, in line with its original intention of serving Baowu, has grown and developed with the joint support of Baowu Resources and NYK shareholders.
At present, the ship mainly serves the ocean transportation of Baowu Resources' "Silk Road Powder" mine project in Australia. In the next step, the "Dongshan" ship will also provide support for the iron ore transportation of the Simandou project, provide a more reliable solution for the stable return of iron ore, and further guarantee the ocean transportation capacity of Baowu Resources' overseas mine projects.
The purchase and operation of the "Dongshan" ship marks the transformation of Baochuan Shipping from a non-vessel operating common carrier to a shipowner, further enhancing the strength of its fleet and meeting the needs of its long-term development strategy.
